Planning A Backpacking Trip In China

By Jonny Blair

When you decide to go backpacking and trekking through Yunnan Province in China you can look forward to the experience of your life. You get all the fresh air and exercise you need while getting close to nature and seeing some of the most astonishing scenery as you travel across the region. The Yunnan region is a popular tourist destination and offers many attractions.

Preparing for your trip of a life-time will require planning. You can start by downloading free maps and information about the Yunnan Provence from travel websites on the internet. You can also download free of charge a number of planned trip itineraries which have proved popular in the past with other travellers to the area.

Public transport around the region is available on a fairly limited timetable. The buses in places such as Luoping are available but do not appear to operate to a specific timetable. Tourists can usually find vans for hire, bikes and even horses to get around for when they get tired of walking.

Although it is not always necessary, depending on the time of year it is advisable to book your accommodation stops along your route. The accommodations along your route will tend to be basic, comfortable, clean and very affordable. Many will have Wifi installed so their guests can send and receive emails and keep in touch with people at home. You will find the staff helpful and full of useful information on the attractions and places you should see in their area.

You will have the opportunity to sample many of the local speciality dishes which come highly recommended by many travellers. You should sample the menus in your hotel or guest house, or ask staff for recommendations and directions to the best local restaurants. Visitors to the area are advised to use bottled water as opposed to local water supplies.

If you require to use any type of medications you should ensure that you have packed enough to last throughout your trip. Depending on your route you may travel through areas where you will be unable to replace your medications if you run out. In general the medical services are available and may not cost as much as at home.

To go trekking through the Yunnan Province requires a certain degree of physical fitness. You will be travelling through a variety of different terrains and need to be adequately equipped. A well planned itinerary will ensure that you should get the best out of your experience.
